In 2022 I didn’t really design any new websites, as our agency had 2 designers & one marketer (that one being me). Unfortunately our other designer has been off for several months now, meaning I’ve had to jump back into design work.
With this time off, I was able to do one of my more inspired designs in quite some time. Plus, I could compare my design against our designers. Here’s a few things I noticed…
Designers value UI, marketers value UX π±
A designer tends to value the flow of the visual elements, whereas a marketer will ignore visual imperfections to prioritise the narrative of the page.
Designers create around the images, marketers around the text βοΈ
Something I noticed about designer websites was that the text sometimes looks reluctantly included. When design only agencies make websites they often don’t mind repeating themselves time after time again in the text.
Marketers naturally value the text a lot more due to SEO & ensuring key USPs are included. Therefore, often the images seem dumped in there.
Designers use visual flairs, marketers often don’t β¨
I avoid animations & visual flairs because I don’t want to increase load times or distract from the key USPs, whereas my brother (who is a designer) is much more excited to include them as these visual elements make it feel more high-end.
